Josie May Gay Fairchild was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 28, 1929 to the late Robert and Mary Gay. She was the third of six children born to this union. Three of her siblings, William, Henry and Mervin have preceded her into eternity.
Josie was a graduate of Morgan Park High School and later attended DePaul University, where she majored in Business Administration. She worked and retired from the Federal Government after many years of service.
Through the grace of God and being baptized at an early age, she joined Saint John Baptist under the late Dr. William A. Johnson. She served on the Usher Board for many years from then to now. She was later married to Thomas Fairchild on June 13, 1959, who preceded her in death.
Josie was a member of the Missionary (Path Finders) and a member of the Goodwill Club. She enjoyed traveling with them for many years. She was also a member of the Senior Ministry Club. She was a very good seamstress and also loved knitting and crocheting.
Josie leaves to cherish her memories, a loving sister, Mary Frances Gay Finney (James Finney); brother, Robert Lee Gay; several sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
