Lester was born to Ethel Lumpkin and Garfield Dillon on January 18, 1930, in McComb, Mississippi. Lester accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age, and he was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in McComb. Lester grew up in the church and sang in the choir.
Lester and his wife moved to Chicago, IL when he was a young man. Lester joined the United States Army and served his country proudly and diligently. When Lester served at the United States Military Academy at West Point, he sang baritone in a singing quintet and a sextet with fellow servicemen, singing spiritual songs.
After being discharged from the Army; Lester worked various jobs including Argo Starch, Butler Aviation, and American Airlines O'Hare Airport. In 2003, Lester retired from American Airlines after 38 years. Lester was a dedicated worker, and he received numerous commendable gifts and awards for his many years of service.
Lester showed pride and respect in everything that he did: his walk, his talk, his sharp attire, his love for his luxurious cars, and his love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.
On Wednesday night May 9, 2012, God called Lester home to eternal rest.
Lester (Paw Paw) is survived by: his children - Lester II, Jennifer, Sheila, Leslie and Kimberly; grandchildren - Nicole, Travis, Lester III, Ashtynne, Karneesha, Angela, Aaliyah (Li Li); Jonathan, Rashaan, David and Raleigh; one great grandson Camren; and many other family and friends whom he loved and who loved him.
