Theresa Crigler was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 26, 1955. She was the youngest of Mildred and Patrick Crigler's three children. Both Patrick and Mildred preceded her in death.
Thelma received Christ as a child at Our Lady of the Gardens Catholic Church in Altgeld Gardens. She attended Our Lady of the Gardens and St Leo Elementary Schools. She graduated from Harlan High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University (SID) in Carbondale. While at SIU,
Thelma enrolled and completed the coursework for a Master Degree in Public Administration. She served in the U. S Army Reserves for three years, where she traveled to many countries around the world.
Thelma was the baby of the family and everyone called her "Little Thelma or Baby T". She was a happy little girl with a beautiful smile; she was full of joy and excitement. She was always giving and taking care of others including all of her playmates. This loving and giving nature extended into her professional career as an Affirmation Action Officer advocating for people who were faced with discrimination in the work place.
Thelma was diminutive in size but so big at heart. She loved taking care of people especially her nephew Jeff (BJ) whom she would take to school with her and carry around until he got too big for her to pick up.
Thelma loved to read and always had a book with her and could tell you the latest book on the best sellers list. Even as a baby she would ask people to read to her. One day she announced to the family that she could not wait until she could read by herself and she was going to read all the books in the world.
Thelma was an excellent cook and love cooking for her friends and family. When you called her she would always tell you about her latest cooking experience and what she planned to cook for the rest of the day and sometimes week. She would sometime tell you her complete shopping list when she was going to the store.
Thelma was truly the baby of the family. She was her brothers little trust and he loved and took care of her and saw to it that she was protected, loved and properly cared for while her mother and sister worked.
Thelma departed this life on August 31, 2011. She leaves to cherish her memories; her life partner and soul mate Keith Robinson.
